About the Artist
Fred Barreto is a guitarist and a singer-songwriter, and was inducted into The Grund Club in September 2016. He brought 4 original songs into The Grund Club Song Catalogue, including About you, which he performed with the Grund Club Songwriters Band and which has since been performed by artists such as Lata Gouveia and Kid Colling.
He picked up an electric guitar at the age of 17, in his native Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, and started performing and recording as a sideman, playing with many different blues and rock artists from Brazil and the USA. In 2005, Fred played at the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and decided to stay in Europe. Living in Lisbon, Portugal, he founded the Fred Barreto Group. Then, in 2009 Fred he crashed into the Trier/Luxembourg scene and soon became an integral part of the musical community. His unique and powerful yet intricate guitar style was influenced by guitar heroes like Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, Johnny Winter or Alvin Lee.
His sound blends right in with hard rock outfits like Dead Sinners or blues combos like Archie Lee Hooker. Fred has toured Brazil with the legendary Slash, traveled through twelve European countries opening for Richie Kotzen , and shared the stage with acts as diverse as Ana Popovic, Evanescence, Wolfmother, Deep Purple and Motörhead, and more.
In 2012, Fred Barreto was invited to give two workshops in USA at the Western Illinois University. His teaching focuses on Blues Guitar and Combo. and has coordinated workshops at the Rockhal in Luxembourg, and at Western Illinois University, USA.
Fred came back to the Grund Club Songwriters Show in December 2016 and remains an inspiration for many in the club.
